Data Controller

The party responsible for data processing on GeoBlitz is the person named in the Legal Notice.

In short

GeoBlitz works without an account and without login. Single-player rounds run anonymously via a random browser ID stored only locally. Only in multiplayer rooms do you enter a freely chosen nickname yourself. Game results are processed on the server for the daily leaderboards.

Please do not enter real names or personal data as your nickname.

Hosting & Server Logs

The site is hosted by Vercel. When it is accessed, technically necessary server logs are created (including a shortened/processed IP address); the legal basis is legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Game Scores & Database

Scores, daily leaderboards and (in multiplayer rooms) the nickname you enter are stored in a Supabase database.

Local Storage in the Browser

For the game functionality, GeoBlitz stores an anonymous ID as well as small progress data in your browser's local storage (localStorage). These are strictly necessary for the service you have requested (§ 25(2) TDDDG) and do not require consent. No tracking takes place.

Flag Images (CDN)

Country flags are loaded from flagcdn.com (Flagpedia). For technical reasons, your device's IP address is transmitted to the CDN provider in the process. The legal basis is legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Cookie Consent (Cookiebot)

To obtain and manage your consent to non-essential cookies and services (in particular advertising), GeoBlitz uses Cookiebot, a service provided by Usercentrics A/S, Havnegade 39, 1058 Copenhagen, Denmark. On your first visit, Cookiebot displays a consent banner and stores your choice in a strictly necessary first-party cookie named "CookieConsent" (retention period 12 months). As proof of consent, Cookiebot also processes your IP address in anonymized (shortened) form, technical browser data, the accessed URL as well as the date and time.

The "CookieConsent" cookie is strictly necessary and is set on the basis of § 25(2) TDDDG; the processing to document your consent is based on Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR (obligation to provide proof under Art. 7(1) GDPR). You can change or withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future by reopening the cookie dialog via the consent widget or by deleting the "CookieConsent" cookie in your browser.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

In doing so, Google and its partners set cookies or device identifiers and process data for advertising. For users in the EEA/UK, consent is obtained in advance via our Google-certified consent banner (Cookiebot, see above); without consent, no personalized ads are served. Details + withdrawal will follow here once advertising is live.

Your Rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. To do so, contact the address named in the Legal Notice.
